My selections with reasons for pre-derby race day.
RACE 1] TANGANYIKA
Reason:
A) Last time finished 5th in good timing,met interference at 200m else would have finished closer.
B) Now demoted & track work noticed.
C) Big day for trainers/owners,may strike.
RACE 2) IRISH SONG
Reason;
A) Won impressively last time out clocking v.good timing.Had more in the reserve.
B) Positive trainer/jockey combo.
C) Now on promotion and looks ready to strike.
RACE 3) SHIVALIK EYES
Reason;
A) Ended 4th to Del Russi last time out over 1400m trip. Covered good ground in the straight.
B) Now running over a mile trip which may suit her.
C) Jockey changed to Srinath which indicates positive intention of the trainer.
RACE 4) HONEYMOON
Reason;
A) Failed favourite last time in a juvenile million race where she met interference twice and was eased losing ground. This run should be ignored.
B) Shroff wards,not be ignored on big race days.
C) Can make amend for her previous failure.
RACE 5) CHAMPAKALI
Reason;
A) Last time finished second to Assiduous as a favourite.
B) Now facing moderate company.
C) Tracking well with same jockey astride today and has a good chance.
RACE 6) SUPREME STAR
Reason;
A) In a rousing form, won 4 races on the trot.
B) Has to beat Bulls Eye who is running first time at this distance.
C) Is a genuine middle distance horse.
RACE 7) FRANKNESS
Reason;
A) Is in good form has won back to back 3 races.
B) Last time defeated Castle Stuart by 6 lengths and later on in his next start castle Stuart won easily.
C) Now on promotion and may defy penalty.
RACE 8) ALFONS BE BORJA
Reason;
A) Finished close second to Ashikaara last time out under whip less jockey.
B) Now jockey changed to John.
C) Facing very moderate company for his liking and now has a bright chance to win.
